Cosmetic Dentures
Cosmetic dentures is a term which is widely used nowadays, however its not one of my most favourite expressions. I believe that all dentures including the cheaper range dental appliance especially with today’s technology can look quite reasonable. Having said that, there are definitely several levels of aesthetics that can only be achieved if the practitioner is given the available time and allowed the necessary effort during the clinical stages. Of cause patient involvement and understanding of limitations is required to achieve the ultimate result. The technology and product availability strengthens the possibilities for the technician or fabricator, giving the patient a myriad of levels obtainable for their personal and financial capability.
In my practice I find that the biggest problem new patients discuss with me is their fear of looking different or unnatural. I make sure to give the them the time necessary to assure them with a very individualised aesthetic appearance and allowing them the complete control when it come to their most treasured smile.

It can also be said, that with new patients presenting to me. I have found that the unfavourable appearances are directly interlinked to an ill-fitting dental appliance possessing unrelated and incorrect personalised dimensions, which in some cases were not just allied to a miss or over-used dental appliance. However, the psychology of good looking dental appliance can sometime allow a positive attitude to a patients acceptance of the appliance that may not otherwise feel so perfect to that patient. Though, I can quite confidently say that it may not very well be the case if the situation was the reversed and where the appliance would have been tolerated if they were not as aesthetically accepted, so the moral of the story is that if they look great they just might feel good too.
