Oral Thrush
Fungus or Candida albicans is the main cause of this symptom. This particular fungus grows where there is a lack of oxygen or anaerobic condition. In the case where there is a loss of vertical support for the denture (bone loss) can cause the mouth to “over-close.” This can change the way the lips seal together and cause saliva to pool at the corners of the mouth. The excess moisture in this area may cause the skin to become irritated and may increase the risk of a candida (fungus) infection. The removal of your denture over night may prevent or cease the possibility of thrush. Thoroughly cleaning and placing your dentures in a glass of cool water when going to bed at night will help immensely. However, the denture must be rebuilt to the correct dimensions or even a new dental appliance is necessary to rid the problem. |
