Plaque

Food and plaque adhered to the denture base and teeth will make the denture look ghastly, causing bad breath and gum diseases. Dentures should be thoroughly cleaned and debris removed with running clean warm water and with a preferably liquid detergent of some sort. Rinsing off the denture to remove all suds is also crucial. This procedure should be performed after every meal, and in between meals when possible. Many patients believe that dentures can be damaged with excessive cleaning especially if the mandibular (lower) denture has a soft lining. What is important to remember is that it is always best to act with common sense, so therefore the use of a soft brush to clean them is prudent. It is always best to have excellent health oral tissues as a priority than a denture that may be mechanically damaged by rigorous cleaning rather than causing ill-health and unfavourable oral odours.
