Denture Related Problems and Precautions

It’s common and expected that patients experience change inside the mouth over time. Not only do your teeth undergo change in terms of size, but so do your gums. Gums naturally, over a course of time experience change. It is expected, that once natural growing teeth are removed from the mouth, the gums have a tendency to lose its shape, inevitable causing shrinkage.

A two-month break-in period is experienced by all denture wears. At this stage, the patients mouth, including its surrounding tissues, is given the time to restore back to its original health.

It is crucial that the conventional denture wearer understand that they’re going to need their practitioner to correct or adjust the appliance after a period of time. This is due to the fact that occasionally, the gum tissue surrounding the denture has the natural ability to change shape and or possible shrink. It is suggested that the expected everyday maintenance of the appliance over a period of time could be the answer to alleviating and even preventing the possibilities for minor corrections.

It is imperative that patients understand that their dental appliance is going to need to undergo adjustments over time. If overtime you have found your dental appliance becoming loose, it is crucial you seek advice from your practitioner. Any sign of a loose fitting appliance could instantly create tremendous strain on your jaw and gums, directly making them targets for pressure points. These pressure points are home to sores and possible infections. It’s advised that you regularly visit a dental specialist to prevent possible future infections and complications. This visit could provide you with the knowledge and opportunity to get some information on how your appliance is functioning. It will also grant you the chance to have the appliance repaired, relined or maybe even replaced.
