Chewing Ability
Poor chewing ability
A dental appliance that does not fit correctly and/or appropriately will bring annoyance upon the patient. The patient with ill-fitting dentures may not be able to chew foods with ease and/or will not be able to eat all the different foods. In both situations, digestion and general fine health are affected. The patient may also need to stay away from tough foods, such as, crunchy fruit, uncooked vegetables, and most of all, tough meat. However, the good news is, that all patients will return back to their normal eating routines, as the patient will adapt to their dental appliances.
Chewing Muscles and Jaw Joints (TMJ)
What is TMJ?
TMJ is short for Temporomandibular Joint, and it can be found between the mandible and the temporal bones. It’s also known as the articulating jaw of the bone. The Temporoparietalis muscle is the muscle that tightens the scalp.
It is this very joint (Temporomandibular Joint) and this particular muscle (Temporoparietalis muscle), which assists everyone in his or her ability to open and closer the mouth. This joint and muscle also works along side others to help with the swallowing and chewing of food, and of course, speaking.
If you are having trouble performing any of these expected natural takes, it’s imperative that you seek advice from your practitioner to address the problem as soon as possible. A problem that involves a lack or restrictive movement from the Temporomandibular Joint and or the Temporoparietalis muscle could possibly result in TMJ Disorder.
